BELVIDE 28.2.25 Foggy am/ Sunny pm Calm

 A Tundra Bean Goose and 5 Pink-footed Geese dropped in at the west end early afternoon, also 13 Egyptian Geese were present. 47 Pintail (21 drakes) remain, also 1 Mandarin and 1 Shelduck were present. An adult Goshawk was soaring this afternoon.

A reminder to all members that the new entrance code to the gate and hides will be in operation from tomorrow morning.

BELVIDE 27.2.25 Fair NW 3

 56 Pintail including 28 drakes becomes a new Belvide record total. Also 3 Shelduck, 2 Goosander and 41 Goldeneye were counted at dusk. A male Merlin flew over this afternoon, also an adult Peregrine and Red Kite were noted. A Great Egret and 11 Oystercatcher were on the north shore. A Chiffchaff was by the ringing station. 3 Stonechat and 23 Meadow Pipit were off the west track.

 Oystercatcher have increased to 9. 28 Pintail remain. A single Great Egret was on the north shore.

BELVIDE 25.2.25 Cloudy W 3

 The first Chiffchaff of the year was along the north wood this afternoon. The 2 redhead Smew roosted in front of the Gazebo hide this evening. The excellent run of Pintail continues with 36 (19 drakes) present, also 7 Shelduck were noted. An adult Goshawk was soaring this afternoon. 2 Great Egret were on the north shore.

BELVIDE 24.2.25 Showery W 2-3

 The 2 redhead Smew dropped in to roost at 5.25pm, also 18 Pintail, 1 Mandarin and 1 Goosander were present. An adult Goshawk was soaring this afternoon, also a Peregrine was noted. 3 Great Egret and 5 Little Egret were on the north shore. 3 Stonechat were off the west track. 2 Red-legged Partridge opposite the car park were new for the year.

2 Great Egret and a Little Egret were on the north shore. 9 Pintail, 183 Tufted Duck, 18 Pochard and 3 Goosander were noted.

BELVIDE 22.2.25 Fair SW 2

 The 2 redhead Smew circled the reservoir a few times at 8.13am, then flew off south. At least 29 Pintail were counted including 16 drakes. 2 Curlew and 6 Oystercatcher were on the north shore. 2 Great Egret and 1 Little Egret were noted. An adult female Goshawk (photo) flew over this morning. 4 Stonechat were present including 3 females and a male.

BELVIDE 21.2.25 Patchy Rain S 4-5

 14 Pintail were still present, also 44 Goldeneye at dusk is the highest count of the winter. 2 Great Egret and 2 Little Egret were on the north shore. 15 Snipe flew out the south east bay at dusk, also 4 Oystercatcher were present. 2 Yellow-legged Gull roosted. An adult Peregrine was noted.

 2 Great Egret and 3 Little Egret were on the north shore. 18 Pintail and 53 Shoveler were counted. A Red Kite flew over this afternoon. 4 Oystercatcher were noted.

 An imm male Goshawk flew over the Scott hide this afternoon. 2 Great Egret, 1 Little Egret  1 Curlew and 2 Oystercatcher were on the north shore. 10 Pintail and 243 Wigeon were counted. A Redpoll was along the Gazebo bay.

BELVIDE 17.2.25 Fair SE 2-3

 The 2 redhead Smew dropped in to roost along the south east bay at 5.23pm, also 34 Goldeneye, 15 Pochard, 5 Pintail, 214 Wigeon, 2 Shelduck, 1 Mandarin and 5 Egyptian Geese were counted. An adult Mediterranean Gull, juv GBB Gull and 2 Common Gull roosted this evening. 2 Great Egret, 4 Little Egret and 3 Oystercatcher were noted.

BELVIDE 16.2.25 Overcast SE 3

 A male Merlin (photo) on a kill off the west track was the first of the year, also an imm male Goshawk and Peregrine were present. A single Curlew flew thru early afternoon was new for the year, also 3 Oystercatcher and 182 Lapwing were present. 2 Great Egret and a Little Egret were noted. 3 Cetti's Warbler were at the west end. Today's WeBS count produced 18 Pintail, 193 Wigeon, 128 Teal, 49 Shoveler, 50 Gadwall, 32 Mallard, 70 Tufted Duck, 9 Pochard, 25 Goldeneye, 2 Goosander, 1 GC Grebe, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Mute Swan, 50 Canada Geese, 3 Egyptian Geese, 4 Greylag Geese, 179 Coot and 1 Kingfisher.

The birding was hard work, with very little to shout about. A Great Egret was on the north shore. 3 Stonechat were off the west track. 164 Wigeon, 9 Pochard and 167 Lapwing were counted.

 A 1st winter Caspian Gull roosted this evening. 2 Great Egret and a Little Egret roosted in the north wood. 2 Peregrine and 5 Shelduck were noted. 2 Oystercatcher and 4 Snipe were on the north shore.

 3 Pink-footed Geese were at the west end this afternoon, also 9 Pintail, 2 Shelduck and a Goosander were present. A single Golden Plover was on the north shore. A Great Egret was noted.

BELVIDE 9.2.25 Overcast ENE 4

 The 1st winter Russian White-fronted Goose was still present on the north shore. 40 Pintail, including a flock of 38 that dropped in early afternoon were present including 22 drakes, also 50 Shoveler, 2 Goosander and 19 Mute Swan were counted. A 1st winter Caspian Gull (photo) was present at the west end. 2 Great Egret, 1 Little Egret were noted.

BELVIDE 8.2.25 Overcast Murky E 2

 A 1st winter Russian White-fronted Goose on the north shore was the first record since one in January 2021. It was still present till 4pm at least. An adult female Goshawk was in the area. 45 Siskin and 1 Redpoll were present. 9 Goosander were present this morning. 1 Great Egret, 1 Little Egret and 2 Oystercatcher were noted.

A single redhead Smew was present this morning, also 3 Pintail, 2 Shelduck and 173 Coot were counted. 3 Great Egret were present early morning before departing south east. A Goshawk was in the area.

 The other 2 redhead Smew were present today, also 3 Goosander, 25 Goldeneye, 190 Tufted Duck, 13 Pochard, 304 Teal, 183 Wigeon, 45 Shoveler and 1 Pintail were counted. 23 Golden Plover flying around the west end were the first of the year, also 2 Oystercatcher remain.

 The redhead Smew was at the west end though appears unwell. Also 8 Pintail and 1 Goosander were present. The first 2 Oystercatcher of the year were on the north shore. 3 Stonechat were off the west track. 2 Little Egret were noted.

 A Whooper Swan on the north shore was new for the year. Also new was an adult Mediterranean Gull in this evening's roost. A single redhead Smew was opposite the Gazebo hide, also 4 Goosander and 2 Shelduck were noted. An adult Peregrine killed a Lapwing.

 The 2 redhead Smew were at the west end, also 2 Goosander, 3 Shelduck and 2 Little Grebe were counted. An adult Goshawk and Red Kite were in the area. 3 Stonechat were off the west track. 152 Redwing and 4 Fieldfare were in the sheep field along the south east bay.

BELVIDE 1.2.25 Overcast S 2

 The 2 redhead Smew dropped in again late morning, also 1 Pintail, 200 Wigeon, 241 Teal, 34 Shoveler, 1 Little Grebe, 2 GC Grebe and 20 Cormorant were counted. A single Black-tailed Godwit on the north shore was new for the year, before departing south at 10.50am. A Great Egret and 4 Little Egret were at the west end. 3 Stonechat were off the west track. An adult Peregrine was noted.
