BELVIDE Cloudy S 3

Good to be back after a nasty bout of food poisoning. The 2nd winter Caspian Gull was present this morning. The Oystercatcher was still on the Chappell bund, also 220 Lapwing were present. A Ruddy Shelduck dropped in this afternoon. A female Pintail was at the west end, also a drake Mandarin and Goosander were noted. 7 Little Egret flew out of the north wood. A Red Kite and Peregrine flew over. 17 Siskin were along the Gazebo bay. 2 Cetti's Warbler were singing with birds from the Scott hide and Gazebo bay.

 An adult Caspian Gull and adult Yellow-legged Gull were present this afternoon. 2 Pink-footed Geese were on the north shore. 1 Dunlin and 3 Goosander were noted.

BELVIDE 18.1.26 Rain ESE 2

 The 2 Russian White-fronted Geese were again at the west end, commuting between there and fields below the dam. Also 2 Pink-footed Geese remain. The Dunlin was still on the small island below the West end hide. 5 Goosander and a drake Pintail were noted. A male Stonechat was off the west track.

 Today's WeBS count produced 2 Pink-footed Geese, 404 Greylag Geese 207 Canada Geese, 1 Bar-headed Goose, 6 Egyptian Geese, 487 Teal, 297 Wigeon, 300 Mallard, 129 Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, 27 Pochard, 75 Tufted Duck, 18 Goldeneye, 12 Goosander, 6 GC Grebe, 270 Coot, 10 Cormorant, 4 Grey Heron and 152 Lapwing. A Dunlin was in front of the West End Hide. This evenings gull roost produced 2 Caspian Gull including an adult and 2nd winter (photo), 4 Yellow-legged Gulls, 506 Herring Gulls, 2500 LBB Gull and 5 Common Gull. A Goshawk and 2 Little Egret were noted.

 The 2 Russian White-fronted Geese were on the north shore this afternoon, also a Pink-footed Goose. A 1st winter Caspian Gull (photo) dropped in mid afternoon, also a 2nd winter Caspian Gull and 2 Yellow-legged Gulls roosted this evening. A Red Kite was new for the year, also 1 Peregrine, 1 Little Egret and 5 Goosander were noted.

 The first Little Grebe of the year was at the west end. 12 Goosander, 3 Mandarin, 184 Gadwall and 320 Wigeon were counted. A 1st winter Yellow-legged Gull (photo) dropped in around midday. A Peregrine was noted.

BELVIDE 10.1.26 Sunny Calm

A Jack Snipe (photo) feeding on the north shore was the first record for two years. 2 Black-tailed Godwit were on the north shore, also a Dunlin flew thru. A Pink-footed Goose was new for the year. A Water Rail was along the west lane, also a single Linnet was new for the year. 5 Goosander, 20 Goldeneye, 33 Pochard, 2 Shelduck and a Mandarin were counted. A Peregrine was noted.

The reservoir was 60% frozen today bringing more wildfowl onto the reserve. 794 Teal, 450 Wigeon, 223 Gadwall, 149 Shoveler, 643 Mallard, 3 Mandarin, 123 Tufted Duck and 26 Pochard were counted.

BELVIDE 5.1.26 Overnight Snow NW 2

 The freezing temperatures are bringing a lot of wildfowl to the reserve. 703 Teal, 474 Wigeon, 114 Shoveler, 2 Mandarin, 21 Shelduck, 1 Australian Shelduck, 437 Greylag Geese, 469 Canada Geese, 1 Bar Headed Goose and 6 Egyptian Geese. There was no sign of the White-fronted Geese. 12 Siskin and 2 Redpoll were along the south east bay.

BELVIDE 4.1.26 Fair NW 2

 The 2 adult Russian White-fronted Geese have appeared again with 303 Greylag Geese on the north shore. 23 Shelduck and an Australian Shelduck were on the north shore, also 458 Wigeon, 105 Shoveler, 3 Pintail and 2 Mandarin were counted. The 2nd winter Caspian Gull was present all afternoon. A Kingfisher was along the Gazebo bay. 2 Redpoll were at the west end, also a Cetti's Warbler. 2 Water Rail were calling in the Scott hide reed bed. A juvenile Goshawk flew over this afternoon. 30 Meadow Pipit were off the west track.

BELVIDE 3.1.26 Sunny NW 2-3

 New birds for the year included a Woodcock reported being flushed out of the reservoir plantation, also a Water Rail calling in the Scott hide reed bed, 8 Shelduck, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Snipe and 15 Skylark. A pair of Stonechat were off the west track. 297 Teal, 137 Gadwall, 56 Shoveler, 347 Wigeon and 264 Greylag Geese were counted.

 News received today included a Kingfisher along the Gazebo bay was new for the year. 3 Stonechat were off the west track. 2 Goosander and a GBB Gull were noted.

BELVIDE 1.1.26 Showery NW 3-4

 An enjoyable day with 75 species recorded on the reserve. The highlight being a Little Stint on the north shore. It did fly off north towards the farm on the A5 and incredibly landed on a barn roof for a minute, before dropping down to feed on a pool presumably. It did return briefly this afternoon, before flying back to the farm. Other highlights included 7 Little Egret departed the north wood roost this morning, also 2 Great Egret flew thru. A juvenile Goshawk raided the north wood, also 2 Peregrine were noted. 8 Goosander, 1 Pintail, 386 Wigeon, 13 GC Grebe and 17 Mute Swan were counted. 2 Stonechat were off the west track, also 25 Siskin.
