A juvenile Caspian Gull (Top photo) was showing well from the Chappell hide this afternoon, also a juvenile Yellow-legged Gull (photo) with a Dutch colour ring. The 2 Lesser Scaup were still present with one at the west end and the other off the dam . A female Garganey at the west end was a new arrival, also 72 Teal were counted. The Egyptian Goose record has increased to 32 today. A juvenile Black-tailed Godwit was at the west end , also 2 Greenshank, 1 Redshank, 2 Ringed Plover and 5 Common Sandpiper were present. Both adult and juvenile Med Gulls were along the south east bay. 4 Great Egret, 5 Little Egret and 2 Common Tern were noted. 35 Grey Heron was a noteworthy count.
Top bird, to my eyes, looks chunky without the slimmer proportions of Caspo but that could be due to the slightly offset angle of the photo rather than full side on. In addition the driller looks heavy with a decent gonydeal angle. Plumage is a subtly variable factor so my thoughts are based on biometric proportions - Laurie
